Course Overview

A Doctor of Medicine (MD) is a medical degree that qualifies a person to practice medicine as a physician. The requirements and status of an MD degree vary by country. 

In the United States and Canada 

  • An MD is a professional degree that qualifies a person to practice medicine as a physician
  • To qualify for an MD, students must complete 90 to 120 credit hours of university level work and in most cases already have a Bachelor's Degree

In the United Kingdom and Germany 

  • An MD is an advanced academic research degree similar to a PhD or a higher doctorate
