Course Overview

Description

Students will use modelling and prediction, then turn both masses of everyday information, and more specialized quantitative and qualitative data, into actionable insights. By using mathematical models and analytical reasoning, students able to examine problems in areas such as operations and supply chain management, information technology, marketing, finance, management, manufacturing, and economics. Students will learn how to solve these problems by using a number of mathematical techniques, including optimization methods (linear, integer, nonlinear), computer simulation, decision analysis, artificial intelligence, data-mining, and more.    

Aims

The aim of this programme is to produce graduates who possess in depth knowledge and skills for scientific decision making; possess sufficient knowledge in integrating other field areas such as economy, management, education and others, as well as having in-depth knowledge in Mathematics, Statistics, Decision Science/ Operational Research, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT); and are able to construct models and analyse them accordingly.

Program Learning Outcome (PLO)

  1. Apply basic and advanced knowledge of operational research/ decision science.
  2. Use advanced quantitative and qualitative approaches, modelling skills and other contemporary decision making tools for industries, public institutions and society.
  3. Design, model and solve real, hypothetical and complex problems using appropriate computer tools.
  4. Understand, evaluate, integrate and synthesize organizational issues towards suggesting potential solutions in the broader context of industries, public institutions and society.
  5. Communicate ideas orally, graphically and in writing to a range of audiences in different situations effectively.
  6. Use various digital technologies to design, analyze and evaluate potential solutions in various situations.
  7. Demonstrate the skills of designing and analysing data as well as evaluating and solving complex real-world problems.
  8. Practice excellent leadership, management and decision making skills in conducting projects or research.
  9. Participate in lifelong learning, career advancement activities, and keep abreast with knowledge of emerging technologies.
  10. Combine appropriate tangible and intangible entrepreneurial skills for decision-making processes.
  11. Carry out responsibilities professionally and ethically.
